Nicole Handy Presents “I’m HER”: A Luxe Evening of Empowerment and Connection Supporting Foster Youth Through Move-In Day Mafia

Houston, TX —Houston real estate powerhouse, brokerage Co-CEO and OWN Network personality Nicole Handy is proud to host “I’m HER,” an exclusive evening of connection, confidence, and purpose designed for women of excellence and influence. This empowering event will also give back to an inspiring cause: 10% of all proceeds will support Move-In Day Mafia, a nonprofit helping foster youth transition into college with dignity and support.

Set in an intimate, upscale venue, I’m HER offers a luxe experience for women across industries to network intentionally, share stories, and celebrate what it means to lead with grace and power.

“I’m HER is more than an event. It’s a space where women show up as their most powerful selves and we use that power to uplift others,” says Handy. “Supporting Move-In Day Mafia means investing in the futures of young scholars who have aged out of foster care and are beginning a new chapter.”

A Mission That Moves: The Story Behind Move-In Day Mafia

Move-In Day Mafia was founded by TeeJ Mercer, affectionately known as Auntie TeeJ, in response to the devastating impact of the 2020 pandemic on graduating students. After raising over $1 million in cash and prizes for 500 graduates through her viral "HBCU Bingo" campaign, TeeJ was moved by the story of a student who had aged out of foster care. That student was dropped off at college with no support, just a social worker, a few bags, and no place to call home.

Devastated by the reality that many foster youth face when entering college, TeeJ sprang into action. Move-In Day Mafia was born to ensure no student ever feels alone on their first day of college again.

- In its first year (2022), the nonprofit provided full dorm makeovers for 13 scholars at Paul Quinn College in Dallas.

- In 2023, that number grew to 30 scholars across 5 HBCUs—and the mission continues to grow.

- Each student receives essential dorm items, emotional encouragement, and the community support they deserve.

According to national data, only 3% of youth who age out of foster care graduate from college. Many lack the financial, emotional, and logistical support needed to succeed. Move-In Day Mafia is helping to close that gap one dorm room at a time.
