Unveiled: From the Vault Opens at Holocaust Museum Houston with Rarely Seen Artifacts

New exhibition showcases personal items, documents, and community archives that illuminate Holocaust history and Jewish life in Houston.

Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH) will open a new exhibition, Unveiled: From the Vault, on Friday, July 25, 2025, offering a rare look at historical artifacts that document the Holocaust and Jewish life in Houston. On display through January 4, 2026, in the Josef and Edith Mincberg Gallery, the exhibition draws from HMH’s permanent collection and features several items never before shown to the public, alongside others returning to view after years in storage.

The exhibition includes personal belongings, photographs, letters, and official documents that provide insight into the lived experiences of Holocaust victims and survivors. Among the standout artifacts is the Temporary Polish Identification Card of Holocaust survivor Samuel Spritzer. The display also emphasizes two of HMH’s collection strengths: an extensive assortment of ghetto and camp currency, and a selection of original German propaganda posters.

In addition to items from HMH’s collection, the exhibition incorporates artifacts from Rice University’s Joan and Stanford Alexander South Texas Jewish Archives. These materials highlight Houston’s Jewish community during World War II, illustrating efforts to support soldiers overseas and aid refugees during the post-war period. The archive itself was established in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017 to preserve Jewish historical materials at risk of destruction.

The Museum will host a public opening for the exhibition on Thursday, July 24, at 6:00 p.m. Attendees can RSVP at hmh.org/UnveiledOpening.

Unveiled: From the Vault is curated by Holocaust Museum Houston and supported by The City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance, along with numerous endowment sponsors including the Gail and Milton Klein/Leslie Danziger Endowment Fund, Levenback Family Endowment Fund, Lynn and Marcel Mason Endowment Fund, and others.
