Community advocate and civic leader Obes Nwabara has officially launched his campaign for Houston City Council At-Large Position 4, pledging to address critical issues such as affordable housing, water infrastructure, and food insecurity through what he calls the “Food-Water-Shelter” initiative.
Nwabara’s announcement follows Council Member Dr. Letitia Plummer’s formal entry into the race for Harris County Judge, setting the stage for an open seat and an evolving political landscape in the city.
"Houston is at a breaking point," Nwabara said in a campaign statement. "Working families are being priced out, our infrastructure is failing, and too many neighborhoods lack the resources they need to thrive. With my Food-Water-Shelter initiative, we will look to feed the hungry, fix our broken water infrastructure, and fight for every Houstonian to have a roof over their head."
A young professional and longtime Houston resident, Nwabara brings a background in health systems innovation and community service. While at Baylor Scott & White Health, he helped launch a pilot program offering patients complimentary rideshare transportation to and from medical appointments — a move aimed at improving access to care and reducing missed visits.
Nwabara currently serves as president of the Bayou City Arts Festival, one of Houston’s most prominent cultural events supporting local artists and small businesses. He is also a board member of the University of Houston Alumni Association Foundation and has been active in educational outreach, neighborhood cleanups, and youth mentorship programs.
His campaign has garnered early support from a number of local leaders and political stakeholders, including:

- Amber Fannin, Precinct Chair
