Charlotte McKenzie Named AARP Texas State President

Charlotte McKenzie, an accomplished business and civic leader from Frisco, has been appointed as the AARP Texas State President, the organization’s top volunteer leadership role in the state.

The announcement, effective immediately, was made by AARP Texas Director Tina Tran. Together, McKenzie and Tran will co-lead the AARP Texas Executive Council, working closely with staff and volunteers across the state to align Texas-specific objectives with AARP’s national strategies.

Welcoming McKenzie to her new role, Tran stated, “Charlotte brings a wealth of experience and professionalism, along with a passion for delivering AARP’s message and mission in our state and community. I am confident that Charlotte will lead our Executive Council to even greater heights.”

McKenzie holds a Master of Science degree in Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Her professional background includes a distinguished career in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, where she served Fortune 500 corporations and startup companies as an award-winning clinical science specialist. Her expertise spans research, team leadership, new business development, executive training, and sales and marketing.

Since retiring from the corporate sector, McKenzie has been a dedicated AARP volunteer. She has served on the AARP Texas Executive Council for several years, contributing to advocacy efforts and leading initiatives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Her work includes hosting telephone town halls on local and statewide issues and facilitating community discussions on AARP priority topics.

In addition to her AARP involvement, McKenzie serves on corporate boards and participates in various organizations committed to driving meaningful change.

“I am deeply honored to serve as the AARP Texas State President and collaborate with the dedicated staff and volunteers of AARP throughout Texas,” McKenzie said. “I look forward to embarking upon our important work of enhancing the quality of life in this great state and serving as fierce advocates for all older Texans and their families while fulfilling the mission and priorities of AARP.”

McKenzie succeeds John Vasquez of San Antonio, who served as State President from 2020 to 2024. Under Vasquez’s leadership, AARP Texas achieved significant legislative victories, expanded and strengthened its Executive Council, and laid a robust foundation for future successes.

With McKenzie at the helm, AARP Texas looks forward to continuing its advocacy and initiatives to improve the lives of older Texans and their families.
