The Bayland Community Center in Harris County Precinct 4 received $55,000 in HVAC system upgrades through the inaugural Cooling Communities initiative, a collaborative effort by Daikin and the Astros Foundation. The donation marked the official launch of the program, aimed at improving indoor comfort in high-need facilities across Greater Houston.
Located in the Sharpstown area, Bayland Community Center is a vital hub for youth sports, senior activities, and public programming. The new HVAC system, installed earlier this summer, features Daikin’s energy-efficient inverter technology, designed to provide consistent climate control while reducing energy consumption. The upgrade significantly improved the building’s ability to serve residents during hot weather and emergency situations.
The installation complemented Bayland’s existing backup power infrastructure, enhancing the center’s role as a cooling and recovery site during extreme heat events or natural disasters. As a trusted gathering place in Precinct 4, Bayland continues to support families, seniors, and youth in a safer, more comfortable indoor environment.
The HVAC donation was celebrated during Air Conditioning Appreciation Days (July 3–August 15), a national observance recognizing the role of climate control in public health and comfort. As part of the celebration, Daikin and the Astros Foundation hosted Bayland community members at Daikin Park, the designated Comfort Zone of the Houston Astros.
The Cooling Communities program reflects Daikin’s and the Astros Foundation’s shared commitment to community investment and resilience. Their support is focused on equipping underserved neighborhoods with long-term infrastructure that enhances quality of life.
Following the success at Bayland, the organizations are planning additional efforts under the Cooling Communities banner, including a youth sports clinic scheduled for this fall at Daikin Park.
