Holocaust Museum Houston Announces Free Admission Days in May to Honor Survivors
Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH) will offer free admission on select days in May 2025 to honor the legacies of Holocaust survivors Walter Kase and Stefi Altman. Visitors are invited to explore the museum's exhibitions and educational programs at no cost on these special commemorative dates.
On Sunday, May 4, 2025, HMH will recognize Walter Kase Free Admission Day, held in memory of Holocaust survivor Walter Kase. The date marks the eve of the anniversary of his liberation by the 71st Infantry Division of the United States Army in 1945. Kase, who passed away on March 4, 2015, dedicated much of his life to Holocaust education and remembrance. This free admission day is made possible through the Walter Kase Endowment Fund.
On Thursday, May 15, 2025, the museum will host Stefi Altman Free Admission Day, honoring the memory of Stefi Altman, a Holocaust survivor who endured multiple labor camps and eventually escaped from the Dorohucza labor camp. Altman survived the remainder of World War II by hiding beneath a barn in a space no larger than a coffin. After liberation by Soviet forces, she discovered that her entire family had been killed. Altman passed away in December 2017, and the free admission day is supported by the Stefi Altman Endowment Fund.
In addition to these commemorative events, HMH will participate in the Blue Star Museums program, offering free admission to active duty U.S. military personnel and their families from Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 17, 2025, through Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2025. This national initiative is a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across the country.
Visitors are encouraged to reserve their free tickets in advance at hmh.org/tickets.
