Solange Knowles Brings Eldorado Ballroom Home to Houston with Groundbreaking Performance Series

The celebrated artist returns to her roots, presenting a dynamic mix of music, art, and culture across iconic Houston venues, starting June 2025

Solange Knowles and Saint Heron’s Eldorado Ballroom Houston will unfold in partnership with Performing Arts Houston, offering six dynamic programs across iconic venues like Jones Hall, The Museum of Fine Arts, and the historic Eldorado Ballroom. Each event promises a unique experience, blending past and present through performances that honor artistic pioneers and spotlight contemporary creators. Early access is now available for Performing Arts Houston members, with public sales opening April 22 at 10 AM CST.

The Houston native and her artist collective, Saint Heron, first introduced the Eldorado Ballroom series in 2023 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Since then, Knowles has reimagined the project, expanding it with sold-out shows in Los Angeles and beyond. Now, the series returns to its roots, with a focus on Houston’s Third Ward. As one critic noted in The New York Times, “with a little luck, Houston may have its own Eldorado Ballroom soon, too.”

The series will showcase a diverse array of performances, including tributes to Black female classical composers, powerful gospel and spiritual music, contemporary art, and a celebration of Houston’s musical legacy. Other highlights include an exploration of Black folk and zydeco music and a futurist look at the impact of Chopped and Screwed music and Houston’s African influences. Additionally, two free screenings of Saint Heron’s film Monuments Are Here, centered on Parliament Funkadelic vocalist Gene "Shady The Great" Thomas, will be held at the Museum of Fine Arts.

"We’re thrilled to work with Solange and Saint Heron to present her vision right here in her hometown," said Performing Arts Houston President & CEO Meg Booth. "Collaborating with Solange, Saint Heron, and Project Row Houses to highlight the Eldorado’s legacy of inspiring Black creativity and community is an enormous honor."

Danielle Burns Wilson, Executive Director of Project Row Houses, expressed excitement over Solange’s return to the Eldorado Ballroom. "Her creative energy has reverberated in the ballroom’s air since A Seat at the Table. Now, she’ll deepen that connection and supercharge the energy in this historic venue."

The Eldorado Ballroom Houston series will kick off June 10, 2025, with On Dissonance, a classical and orchestral evening centered on Black women’s contributions to classical music. Performances will include works by Julia Perry, Tania León, and Solange Knowles, with the Houston Symphony conducted by Jeri Lynne Johnson. On June 11, Type of Guest will feature an experimental performance at the Eldorado Ballroom, followed by two screenings of Monuments Are Here at the Museum of Fine Arts on June 12. June 14 will bring Paper in My Shoe, honoring zydeco and folk music, and on June 15, Glory to Glory will celebrate spiritual and devotional works at Jones Hall. The series will close on June 20 with Go Slow, a performance blending Black southern electronic music with Houston and West African sounds.

Tickets are available at performingartshouston.org/eldorado. Early access for Performing Arts Houston Visionary Members is currently open, with public sales starting April 22.

The series is supported by the Performing Arts Houston Foundation, local donors, and the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance.
