Families across the Houston area are invited to celebrate Earth Day in a big way as the Children’s Museum Houston and Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center prepare to host a day filled with eco-friendly fun and hands-on learning. On Saturday, April 19, 2025, both locations will throw open their doors for a festive Earth Day Bash that promises to delight kids and adults alike with exciting activities, science demonstrations, and a giveaway of free tree saplings.
Visitors to the Children’s Museum Houston can take home a piece of the planet with a free tree sapling, courtesy of Trees for Houston, and explore a series of engaging events designed to spark environmental curiosity. Highlights include a fascinating talk by Rice University biosciences professor Scott Solomon, who will introduce guests to the ancient agricultural practices of fungus-farming ants—a tradition that dates back an astonishing 66 million years. The University of Houston-Downtown will also be on hand with live demonstrations on water filtration and sustainability.
Creative minds will flourish with a variety of Earth-themed crafts. Children can build their own wooden planter boxes, decorate clay pots, and make colorful tissue paper flowers. They’ll also have the chance to create seed bombs filled with wildflower seeds to beautify their own neighborhoods, and design recycled bracelets that teach the importance of sustainability in a fun, hands-on way.
At the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center, families will enjoy a similar green celebration. Alongside the tree sapling giveaway, guests can catch “Butterfly Buddies,” an interactive bilingual performance by Express Children’s Theatre that tells the story of butterflies banding together to protect their endangered habitat. Young visitors can also make wildflower seed bombs to take home, spreading Earth Day’s message through blooms and color.
With activities that educate, entertain, and inspire, this Earth Day Bash offers the perfect opportunity for families to come together, give back to the planet, and celebrate the wonders of the natural world.
