National Civil Rights Museum to Host Annual April 4th Commemoration Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

The National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel will hold its annual April 4th Commemoration to mark the 57th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. This year’s theme, “How Long, Not Long,” is inspired by Dr. King’s 1965 speech in Montgomery, Alabama, advocating for voting rights. The theme highlights the continued urgency of collective action in safeguarding democracy and promoting social and economic justice.

The commemoration serves as both a reflection on history and a call to action, reinforcing that Dr. King’s fight for justice remains relevant today. The museum aims to encourage public participation in efforts toward sustainable and meaningful change.

This year’s event, “Remembering MLK: The Man. The Movement. The Moment.”, will take place in the museum’s courtyard on Thursday, April 4, at 5:00 PM CT. A livestream will be available on the museum’s website, YouTube, and Facebook channels. In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved indoors.
