Following Speaker Mike Johnson’s decision to cancel House votes for the remainder of the week, Fort Bend County Precinct 4 Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy has reiterated his call for Congressman Troy Nehls to host a public town hall, emphasizing the need for direct engagement with constituents.
Commissioner McCoy initially made the request on Monday, March 24, citing widespread community concerns over potential cuts to Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare. Throughout the week, he continued to push for accountability, including during a congressional town hall event on March 27, where he introduced Beto O’Rourke and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. During that event, McCoy, O’Rourke, and Walz collectively urged Nehls to meet with his constituents in an open forum.
The call for a town hall gained further momentum on Friday, March 28, when Commissioner McCoy led a delegation of concerned residents to Congressman Nehls’ district office. The delegation delivered more than 290 letters from constituents urging Nehls to hold a public forum. The letter delivery underscored growing demands for transparency and direct communication between elected officials and the community.
McCoy emphasized that the people of Congressional District 22 deserve to be heard and that each letter delivered represents a resident who wants accountability, engagement, and leadership. He stressed that a public town hall is not a courtesy but a fundamental responsibility of an elected official. The invitation for Congressman Nehls to meet with his constituents remains open, and the community awaits his response.
To date, over 300 residents have signed the letter urging Nehls to hold a public forum.
Taking a proactive approach, Commissioner McCoy has scheduled a public town hall for Monday, April 14, at 6:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Fort Bend County Pct. 4 Annex, located at 1517 Eugene Heiman Cir., Richmond, TX 77469. Congressman Nehls has been invited to attend.
