Award-Winning Non-Profit Is Aiming To Raise Funds For Youth Aging Out Of The Foster Care System

Organizations that invest in youth aging out of foster care contribute to the creation of a more equitable, supportive, and prosperous society. By addressing the unique challenges these young adults face, providing essential resources, and fostering a sense of community, these organizations help ensure that foster youth have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. The positive ripple effects of such support extend far beyond the individuals directly impacted, benefiting the entire community and future generations.

As the 70 Years of Blackness Scholarship Project look to the future, its vision remains clear: to empower foster youth through education and support, enabling them to lead fulfilling, successful lives. The program aims to continue evolving, incorporating innovative approaches to address the complex challenges faced by its scholars.

Young adults aging out of the foster care system face numerous challenges. Without the safety net of a stable family, many struggle with housing instability, lack of access to healthcare, and limited educational opportunities. The 70 Years of Blackness Scholarship Project addresses these issues head-on by providing a stable foundation upon which scholars can build their futures.

One of the critical components of the program is its focus on mental health. Many foster youth experience trauma and emotional distress, which can impede their academic and personal growth. The program offers counseling services and peer support groups, fostering a community where scholars can share their experiences and find solace in knowing they are not alone.

In efforts to raise funding, the Byrd Family's non-profit organization in San Antonio, TX has started an Elderly Comfort Express Shuttle for transportation into the Kickapoo Casino in Eagle Pass and private appointments for shopping, doctor visits, barber/beauty, etc. The service offers wheelchair accessibility as well.
