Endorsement for Houston Mayor: State Representative Gene Wu Backs John Whitmire

John Whitmire announced today that State Representative Gene Wu, District 137, has endorsed him in his campaign for mayor of the City of Houston.

“John Whitmire has been a consistent advocate for our immigrant community and played a crucial role in defeating harmful legislation targeting the Asian community in the recent session,” Rep. Wu said. “I believe, as Mayor, he will continue to be a fighter for our immigrant community and will embrace our diversity in Houston.”

For four decades, Whitmire has been the representative for Senate District 15 in the Texas Senate, following a decade of service in the Texas House. Recognizing Houston as a vibrant city, he acknowledges its diverse population collaborating to address significant challenges. Whitmire is committed to unleashing the city's full potential by tackling pressing issues such as public safety, illegal dumping, homelessness, flooding, drainage, street and water system repairs, and establishing a balanced, transparent budget. Additionally, he aims to uplift the morale of police and firefighters, assuring them that Houston stands firmly behind them.
