Astros Jose Altuve Does On-Field Workouts, But Doesn't Have A TimeTable For Return

Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker got a welcomed sight as he walked into the home dugout for his pregame press conference. Second baseman Jose Altuve did some agility exercises and fielded ground balls Saturday before the Astros game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

“I didn’t expect this so early,” said Baker as he watched Altuve on the field. “He said he was feeling pretty good, so it was nice to see him out there.”

Altuve has missed the last three games with a left hamstring injury he suffered in the Astros’ home-opening victory against the Los Angeles Angels. He did not detail when he would return but did acknowledge that he was feeling better.

“It felt pretty good today,” Altuve said about getting back to baseball-related activities. “Obviously, I took some ground balls, ran a little bit and threw some balls. I felt really, really good.”

Even though Altuve is scheduled to come off of the 10-day IL next Friday, Altuve still isn’t prepared to say that he will be ready to play in Toronto’s Toronto Blue Jays series.

“At this point I want to trust everything the trainers and doctors say,” Altuve said. “Even if I feel good, I got to follow what they say. I don’t know what their plan is, but we’ll find out soon. The most important thing is I was able to move around and feel really good today.”
