Brian Gaine

Friday's are usually slow days for the media as no one really expects anything to break going into the weekend news cycle. I guess no one mentioned that to the Texans franchise. Houston fired their General Manager Brian Gaine after less than two years of service with the organization.

Gaine came to the Texans from the Buffalo Bills after the 2017 season where he served as vice president of player personnel. Houston gave him a five-year contract after former GM Rick Smith stepped down to help his wife battle breast cancer.

The organization released an official statement thanking Gaine for his time with the Texans:

“After a thorough evaluation of our football operations, we have decided to relieve Brian Gaine of his duties as general manager,” Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair said in a statement. "Brian is a man of high character and we appreciate his contributions to our organization. We will begin an immediate search for a new GM. In the interim, Football Operations will be led by Senior Vice President of Football Administration Chris Olsen. While the timing may be unusual, this decision was made in the best interest of our organization in our quest to build a championship team for the City of Houston."

No word has been given on why Gaine was fired or who is being touted as a potential replacement.
