Texas Voter ID Law Intentionally Discriminated, Judge Rules

Texas legislators intentionally discriminated against Hispanic and black voters in passing its 2011 voter identification law, a federal judge ruled. In a 10-page decision issued Monday, U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos wrote that a previous ruling compelled Texas to demonstrate the law was enacted without knowingly targeting minorities, and that the burden of proof "shifted to the State to demonstrate that the law would have been enacted without its discriminatory purpose.

"Queen Sugar" Season Two Debuts with Two-Night Premiere Event Tuesday, June 20 and Wednesday, June 21 on OWN

“Queen Sugar,” the critically acclaimed drama series from Academy award-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay (“13th,” “Selma”), executive producer Oprah Winfrey and Warner Horizon Scripted Television, returns for its second season with a two-night event on OWN Tuesday, June 20, and Wednesday, June 21 (10 p.m. ET/PT each night). Scientists To Sue To Defend Chemical Plant Rule, Fearing Trump Admin Won't

The Union for Concerned Scientists, Sierra Club and Earthjustice plan to jointly file a motion Wednesday to intervene in a lawsuit filed by fossil fuel groups in March that asks the Environmental Protection Agency to delay or reconsider a rule that places more regulations on chemical plants. The chemical plant regulations were signed into the Federal Register in January as a direct response to the fertilizer plant explosion in West Texas that killed 15 and injured more than 160 in 2013.
