Clayborne Carson, the world-renowned and acclaimed Martin Luther King Jr. scholar and director of the King Papers Project, speaks at Westmont’s Mosher Center for Moral and Ethical Leadership luncheon on Friday, Nov. 4, from 12-1:30 p.m. in the Simmons Center of Westmont’s Global Leadership Center. Carson will present “The Lives and Shared Legacy of Coretta Scott and Martin Luther King Jr.” A limited number of tickets, which cost $50 per person, are available for purchase at westmont.edu/mosher-event.
National Black Business Chamber champion Harry C. Alford dies
It is with great sadness that our Warrior Leader and President/CEO and Co-Founder of the National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), Harry C. Alford, transitioned Monday, December 6, in Washington, DC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay DeBow, Vice President and Co-Founder of the National Black Chamber five months ago.

High School State Honoree: Zane Magee Nominated by Montgomery High School in Montgomery
Zane Magee, 17, of Montgomery and Caroline Wells, 14, of Tyler today were named Texas' top two youth volunteers of 2018 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. As State Honorees, Zane and Caroline each will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and an all-expense-paid trip in late April to Washington, D.C., where they will join the top two honorees from each of the other states and the District of Columbia for four days of national recognition events. During the trip, 10 students will be named America’s top youth volunteers of 2018.

East End neighbors and community stakeholders are invited to enjoy a free afternoon of fellowship, music and local barbecue to commemorate the completion of the final stops of the METRORail Green Line and opening of the Harrisburg Overpass. Regular service along the line, stretching from Magnolia Park Transit Center in the East End to downtown's Theater District Station, began last week. Young Shreveport rapper using platform to bring attention to senseless violence
An 11-year-old is using his rap skills to speak out about the violence overtaking over Shreveport. Ray Da Yungin is using his growing platform to reach the masses. The rapper is using music to show other young people the impact of violence. He calls himself a kid influencer and he's determined to use his voice for good. He says the violence here in Shreveport is just hitting too close to home and after losing two friends tragically he put all his hurt into his music.
