Harris County Students Attend Houston Urban Debate League Summer Institute through CASE Debates
Thirty-four CASE Debates students joined other young debaters at the Houston Urban Debate League (HUDL) Summer Institute last week to develop their public speaking skills and learn more about the theory of debate. The CASE Debates students represented seven schools, three districts and two charter schools in Harris County.

A federal civil rights lawsuit (see attached) has been filed today against the Pearland ISD, a School Discipline Clerk, Head Principal Tony Barcelona, and teacher Jeanette Peterson who May 17, 2019 used a jet-black permanent marker (Sharpie) to blacken the scalp of a never-before-disciplined 7th grader’s head (95 lbs., 4 ft., 11 in.) because they claimed his common African American “fade” haircut with innocuous line design violated the Pearland ISD dress code policy.

Animal Defenders International urges public to avoid elephant rides at Texas Renaissance Festival
Elephants supplied for rides at this year’s Texas Renaissance Festival in Todd Mission have been filmed by Animal Defenders International (ADI) being beaten by their handler, Mike Swain of Trunks & Humps, during training. ADI is asking the public not to pay for the elephant rides at the festival, which continues every weekend through December 1, as well as on Black Friday (November 29).
