Even though 1619 is often given as the date of arrival of the first African slaves in what is now the United States of America, history tells us there were actually African slaves in this country as early as the 1500’s. No matter which one of these dates you believe to be true, we do know that the American slaves from Africa and their descendants remained in bondage in this country for over 200 years.

Hard to believe it is just two and a half hours away from the states. In order to get to Las Terrazas, I had to land at the main airport in Belize City, take another plane to a small island and board a boat to get to my final destination of paradise.
