Sylvester Turner is officially a member the U.S. Congress. Sworn in over the weekend, Turner received the oath of office from U.S. Federalris County Judge Lina Hildago, Rev. Ralph Douglas West, Earnest Judge Alfred H. Bennett to represent the 18th Congressional. The ceremony opened with prayer by Rev. Miguel Solorzano. Also joining emcee Linda Lorelle on program was U.S. Congressman Al Green, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher, State Senator Molly Cook, and Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, and Houston City Council Member Abbie Kamin. Earnest Pugh and Treva Jones provided entertainment. Top Teens from Humble, TX provided a moving tribute to Congressman Turner.
Sitting on the front row taking everything was the daughter of the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Erica Lee Carter. Also in attendance was Cydonii and State Senator Borris Miles, Harris County District Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth, Houston City Council Members Marth Tatum-Castex, and Tiffany Thomas, Ashley Captain with her husband and son, andKristen Page.
