A familiar Tomball grocery landmark is getting ready for a supersized next chapter.
H-E-B has registered plans for a major $20 million renovation and expansion of its longtime store at 28520 Tomball Parkway, giving northwest Harris County shoppers something worth putting on the grocery list well before construction begins.
According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing registered September 23, 2026, H-E-B Store #0574 is slated for a “remodel with expansion of existing store.” The privately funded project lists pb2 architecture + engineering as the design firm and identifies 96,237 square feet as the project area. Importantly, that figure does not establish how much new space will be added, so the final size of the expansion remains to be announced.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin March 1, 2027, with completion projected for April 28, 2028. H-E-B has not announced a grand reopening date, nor has it publicly detailed any new departments, restaurants, parking changes or expanded specialty services tied to the project.
Still, for Tomball shoppers, the message is clear: H-E-B is reinvesting in a store that has been part of the community’s everyday rhythm for years.
The timing also carries a little hometown poetry. During Tomball’s January 30, 2024 Comprehensive Plan Community Open House, residents were asked what kinds of businesses they wanted to see in the city. Among the written responses were “New larger HEB” and “New HEB.” Those comments were individual community suggestions, not a formal mandate and not evidence that they directly triggered the company’s investment. But two years later, a major expansion is officially on the books.
Call it grocery-store coincidence with Texas-sized timing.
The Tomball Parkway and Graham H-E-B, corporate store #574, already offers a broad mix of services including curbside pickup, delivery, H-E-B Fuel and a drive-thru pharmacy. Its grocery lineup includes the staples Houston-area families know well—from produce, bakery and pantry goods to meat, seafood and prepared foods. H-E-B has not yet confirmed which, if any, of those departments will be enlarged or reconfigured in the upcoming project.
This is not the first reinvestment at the address. State records show the Tomball store underwent a $1.7 million wall-to-wall remodel in 2016, followed by a $200,000 curbside remodel in 2018. The newly registered $20 million project is dramatically larger in construction value and, unlike those earlier updates, specifically calls for an expansion of the existing store.
For a growing Tomball area, that matters. Grocery stores are more than retail boxes; they are traffic generators, employers, neighborhood anchors and, in Texas, sometimes unofficial town squares with tortillas.

Longstanding community investment is not always about replacing what exists. Sometimes it means listening, modernizing and giving a trusted location enough room to serve the next generation of customers.
The construction timeline is still more than a year away, and many details remain under wraps. But one thing is already certain: Tomball’s longtime H-E-B is not going anywhere.
It is getting bigger.
