From Groundbreaking to Groundbreaking Impact: Legacy Community Health Opens Acres Homes Clinic, Bringing Healthcare and Hope Home

Houston Methodist’s $50 million-plus investment brings quality healthcare, new opportunities, and healthier futures to historic Acres Homes.

HOUSTON, TX — In historic Acres Homes, where generations of families have built legacies of resilience, entrepreneurship, and community pride, something extraordinary is happening. The neighborhood that helped shape Houston's history is now helping shape its healthcare future.

On Friday, October 2, 2026, Legacy Community Health officially celebrated the grand opening of its 26,200-square-foot Acres Homes Clinic at 3011 W. Gulf Bank Road, transforming years of planning, partnerships, and community advocacy into a powerful promise: quality healthcare should never depend on someone's ZIP code.

And for more than 54,000 Acres Homes residents, that promise is now closer to home.

A Historic Community Deserves a Historic Investment

Founded in the early 1900s, Acres Homes developed into one of the South's largest historically African American communities outside incorporated city limits. Its story is rich with landownership, family traditions, churches, and generations of neighborhood leadership.

Yet significant healthcare challenges persist. According to Legacy, nearly 26% of residents lack health insurance, approximately 39% of adults experience high blood pressure, and nearly 19% live with diabetes.

Those statistics make accessible preventive healthcare essential.

“At Legacy, we show up in the communities where care gaps persist and we stay. This clinic is designed to be a health care home, where individuals and families can access coordinated care and support through every stage of life. It’s a place where a mother, her children and her parents can all be seen,” said Robert Palussek, CEO of Legacy Community Health.

Houston Methodist and Legacy: Partners in Progress

The celebration represents another milestone in an extraordinary partnership between Legacy Community Health and Houston Methodist.

Houston Methodist's transformational gift of more than $50 million supports two major community healthcare facilities: the Legacy Acres Homes Clinic and Legacy Pasadena Southmore Clinic, which celebrated its ribbon-cutting earlier in 2026.

For more than 25 years, these healthcare organizations have collaborated to serve Greater Houston families.

“The Acres Homes clinic is the result of years of thoughtful collaboration with Legacy Community Health to build something lasting for this neighborhood. By supporting Legacy’s growth here, we are expanding access to care and creating a resource families can rely on for decades to come,” said Cathy Easter, senior vice president of community development at Houston Methodist.

The Acres Homes facility, designed by Kirksey Architects, is also expected to support 96 full-time positions, reinforcing healthcare investment as an engine of neighborhood opportunity.

Healthcare for the Entire Family, Under One Roof

Legacy's innovative Health Beyond Care approach recognizes that healthier families require more than occasional doctor's appointments.

The new clinic brings adult primary care, pediatrics, women's health and OB/GYN services, behavioral healthcare, eligibility assistance, and comprehensive support programs together in one convenient location.

On-site Quest laboratory services simplify diagnostic testing. Free walk-in pregnancy testing is available weekdays, while an on-site pharmacy is planned for spring 2027.

Importantly, Legacy accepts Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and most private insurance plans. Sliding-scale payment options help residents access services regardless of financial circumstances.

As Palussek explained, the facility is intended to serve multiple generations: “It’s a place where a mother, her children and her parents can all be seen.”

A Grand Opening Worth Celebrating

The ribbon-cutting united Legacy leadership, Houston Methodist executives, elected officials, and neighborhood stakeholders.

Among the speakers were Palussek, Legacy Board Chair Ryan Martin, and Houston Methodist President and CEO Dr. Marc L. Boom.

Houston City Council Members Willie Davis, Julian Ramirez, and Tarsha Jackson presented a mayoral proclamation recognizing the occasion.

Elected officials in attendance also included Christian Menefee, U.S. Representative, Texas's 18th Congressional District; Armando Walle, State Representative, Texas House District 140; Molly Cook, State Senator, Texas Senate District 15; and Charlene Ward Johnson, State Representative, Texas House District 139.

For Houston Style Magazine, which celebrated the project's groundbreaking in 2025, the grand opening marks a welcome transition from ambitious blueprints to accessible care.

Acres Homes has always possessed the heart of a strong community. Now, with Legacy Community Health and Houston Methodist investing in its future, that heart has another reason to beat stronger.

Because the greatest legacy healthcare can leave is a healthier generation.
