The ninth annual Sin Muros: A Latinx Theater Festival is returning to Houston this summer, bringing together playwrights, performers, artists, and community members for four days celebrating Latinx stories and culture at The Gordy theater complex.
Hosted by Stages, the 2026 festival will take place June 11–14 and will feature staged readings, workshops, live performances, poetry, dance, and community events highlighting voices from across Texas’ Latinx communities.
Festival organizers say Sin Muros was created to support both emerging and established Latinx playwrights by giving them the opportunity to hear their work performed live, collaborate with actors and directors, and continue developing new plays for future productions.
The festival has also become an important launching point for new works. According to Stages, the organization recently reached a milestone when that drive thru monterey by Matthew Paul Olmos became the first play developed through Sin Muros to receive a full mainstage production during Stages’ 2025–2026 season.
This year’s featured staged readings include:
- Caravan by Sumaya Zeidat, which follows a Mexican American teen navigating family expectations and identity.
- A Plausible History of Xicotencatl II by Jaymes Sanchez, centered on an Indigenous leader connected to a modern Texas student.
- Dolores, Who Now Knows Everything by Kathleen Culebro, a story about memory, grief, and chaos in a village after a woman returns from death.
In addition to the theatrical performances, festivalgoers can expect poetry curated by Tintero Projects, dance showcases from Pilot Dance Project, Reposo, and Salsa Congress, along with live music, local vendors, workshops, post-show discussions, and an arts market throughout the weekend.
The festival will also include the annual El Estreno Puente Prize Reception honoring individuals who have made lasting contributions to Houston’s Latinx arts community. Honorees receive custom awards created by artist Joseph Blanchard.
Tickets for the festival are now on sale, with festival passes starting at $10 and including access to all three staged readings and additional festival events.
Founded in 1978, Stages is one of Houston’s largest nonprofit performing arts organizations and produces more than 400 performances annually at The Gordy.
