Fans of Portillo’s have new reasons to celebrate this spring, as the iconic Chicago-based fast-casual chain rolls out a limited-time dessert and a Houston-exclusive burger promotion tied to rodeo season.

Known for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches and famous chocolate cake, Portillo’s is expanding its dessert lineup with a new Birthday Cake and Birthday Cake Shake, available nationwide through April 6.

Like the restaurant’s beloved chocolate cake, the Birthday Cake features two melt-in-your-mouth layers baked fresh daily at Portillo’s restaurants. The cake is packed with Funfetti® rainbow sprinkles and topped with creamy vanilla frosting and an extra burst of colorful sprinkles.

The celebratory dessert can be enjoyed by the slice, purchased as a whole cake for special occasions or blended into Portillo’s signature Cake Shake — a frozen treat that mixes cake directly into a milkshake.

The launch comes at a milestone moment for the brand. Portillo’s is marking the one-year anniversary of its first loyalty program, Portillo’s Perks, while also approaching the 63rd anniversary of the company’s original hot dog stand, which opened in Chicago in April 1963.

To celebrate the loyalty program’s first birthday, Portillo’s Perks members can enjoy a slice of Birthday Cake for just $1 with a purchase of $5 or more from March 9 through March 15. New members who sign up for the program can also receive a free large order of French fries with their first purchase of $5 or more.

While the new dessert is available nationwide, Houston diners are also getting a special rodeo-season promotion.

In honor of the city’s iconic rodeo festivities and the brand’s six Houston-area locations, Portillo’s is offering its Rodeo Burger for just $6 for one week only, from March 2 through March 8, 2026. The deal is exclusive to Houston-area Portillo’s Perks members and available through the restaurant’s direct ordering channels.

The Rodeo Burger is a Texas-inspired version of Portillo’s char-broiled burger, served on a brioche bun and topped with thick crispy bacon, thinly sliced red onion, two onion rings, American cheese and the restaurant’s signature barbecue sauce.

Founded as a small hot dog trailer in Chicago, Portillo’s has grown into a nationally recognized brand with more than 100 restaurants across 11 states. The company continues to build a loyal following with its menu of classic comfort foods and signature desserts.
