Houstonians will have a unique opportunity this summer to hear directly from former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden when she appears at the Wortham Theater Center as part of The Progressive Forum's 2025–2026 season.

The special event will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cullen Theater at the Wortham Theater Center, where Dr. Biden will join Progressive Forum founding executive director Randall Morton for a conversation about her new memoir, View from the East Wing, currently the No. 1 bestseller on The New York Times list.
The evening will offer an inside look at Dr. Biden's years in the White House and her experiences during one of the most consequential periods in recent American history. The memoir recounts her time serving as First Lady during the COVID-19 pandemic, the aftermath of the January 6 insurrection, and the Biden administration's efforts surrounding education, military families, women's health, cancer research, and vaccine awareness.
Randall Morton described Dr. Jill Biden as an inspiration, praising her graciousness, wisdom, and steadfast commitment to public service. He noted that during one of the most challenging and defining periods in recent American history, she not only served as an inspiring First Lady but also remained dedicated to her lifelong career as an educator and advocate for community colleges.
Dr. Biden made history as the first First Lady to maintain a full-time professional career while living in the White House, continuing to teach English at a community college throughout her husband's presidency. She previously served as Second Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017 and remains an advocate for education, military families, cancer research, and women's health initiatives.
In View from the East Wing, Dr. Biden reflects on life behind the scenes in the White House, sharing personal stories from Camp David, Air Force One, and the East Wing while balancing her roles as a teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, and First Lady.
All tickets to the Houston event include a copy of View from the East Wing (a $32 retail value). Ticket prices are $49, $74, and $154, plus fees. A limited number of VIP tickets will be available and include access to a pre-event receiving line with Dr. Biden. Students may purchase tickets online for $25 with a valid student ID.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on June 23, 2026.
The event is generously sponsored by Jenny and Mike Blocher, Mary Cubanski and Don Griffin, Melanie Gray and Mark Wawro, and Amy Sutton and Gary Chiles.
