Daikin, Astros Foundation Bring $100,000 HVAC Upgrade to Moody Park Community Cente

Moody Park Community Center is set to receive $100,000 in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) upgrades through the second year of the Cooling Communities initiative, a partnership between Daikin and the Astros Foundation aimed at strengthening neighborhood facilities across the Houston area.

The investment will replace two HVAC units at the community center, including one that is no longer operational. Following an initial facility assessment, the project budget was increased from $50,000 to $100,000 to address critical infrastructure needs. The new systems will utilize Daikin's inverter technology to improve reliability and help maintain comfortable indoor temperatures for visitors throughout the year.

Located within Moody Park on Houston's Near Northside, the Moody Park Community Center serves residents with recreational programming, educational activities, senior services, youth programs and community events. During periods of extreme heat and emergencies, the facility also functions as a cooling center, providing residents with a safe, air-conditioned place to seek relief from dangerous temperatures.

The announcement coincides with Houston's observance of Air Conditioning Appreciation Days, highlighting the importance of reliable cooling systems during the region's hottest summer months.

According to organizers, the investment is intended to support the community center's role as a year-round gathering place for families, children, seniors and neighborhood residents while ensuring the facility remains operational during periods of extreme weather.

Moody Park is one of Houston's historic neighborhood parks and has long served the Near Northside community with recreational amenities that include athletic fields, playgrounds, walking trails, a swimming pool, sports courts and the community center. The park has undergone multiple improvements in recent years, with local and county partners investing in upgrades designed to expand recreational opportunities and improve public facilities.

The HVAC improvements represent one of the first major infrastructure projects since Harris County Precinct 2 assumed responsibility for the operations and maintenance of Moody Park.

The Cooling Communities initiative launched in 2025 as a partnership between Daikin and the Astros Foundation to improve HVAC systems at community facilities serving Houston-area residents. The inaugural project provided $55,000 in HVAC upgrades to Bayland Community Center in Harris County Precinct 4.

To recognize this year's investment, representatives from Daikin, the Astros Foundation, Harris County Precinct 2 and the City of Houston will be honored on the field at Daikin Park on Aug. 5.
