Harris County Attorney’s Office Accepting Applications for 2026 Summer Legal Academy

The Office of the Harris County Attorney is now accepting applications for the 2026 Summer Legal Academy, a two-week educational program designed to introduce high school students to careers in law and the legal system.

The Summer Legal Academy provides students with the opportunity to learn directly from attorneys, public servants, and community leaders while gaining a clearer understanding of the path to law school and the many career options within the legal profession.

Over the past four years, the program has served as a key resource for students across Harris County who are interested in pursuing careers in law. The academy helps students who may be unfamiliar with how to prepare for law school by offering early exposure to legal education and professional pathways. Parents and educators are encouraged to share this opportunity with students who may benefit from the program.

Since 2022, the Summer Legal Academy has served more than 120 students from over 20 Harris County high schools, including campuses in Houston ISD, Alief ISD, Klein ISD, and other local school districts.

During the program, students will learn about the law school application process, preparation for the Law School Admission Test, what to expect as a law student, and the different areas of legal practice. Participants will also hear directly from attorneys and community leaders working in the legal field.

The program is open to Harris County high school students entering grades 10 through 12. Applicants are required to submit an online application, a letter of recommendation, a writing sample, a short essay, and a personal statement.

The priority application deadline is March 2, with a final deadline of March 23.

The Summer Legal Academy will be held from Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 24. Students are expected to attend the full two-week program.
