At a time when many Houston families are struggling to afford basic necessities, two Houston City Council members are joining community partners to provide direct support to those in need.
Houston City Council Members Edward Pollard and Carolyn Evans-Shabazz are partnering with Hugs & Diapers and the Texas Diaper Bank to host a Community Diaper Drive on Saturday, August 29, providing free baby and adult diapers and other essential items to Houston families.
The distribution will take place from 10 a.m. until supplies last at the Sunnyside Health and Multi-Service Center, 4410 Reed Road.
For families facing rising household expenses, everyday necessities such as diapers can create a significant financial burden. The cost of caring for babies, seniors and adults with disabilities can quickly add up, making community-driven efforts like this one an important source of relief for families who may be struggling to make ends meet.
The event builds on Council Member Pollard's ongoing commitment to connecting residents with essential resources. In July, Pollard hosted a similar community distribution event in District J in partnership with Hugs & Diapers, the Texas Diaper Bank and India House Houston. That event brought together community organizations, volunteers and local leaders to help families access much-needed diapers and other basic essentials.
The August 29 event expands that spirit of collaboration through Pollard's partnership with Council Member Evans-Shabazz, bringing resources to another area of Houston where families can benefit from direct assistance.
"Community partnerships are critical, especially during times when so many families are facing financial challenges," the collaborative effort demonstrates. By bringing resources directly into the community, the partners hope to ease some of the pressure on Houston households and ensure that families have access to items that are essential to health, dignity and daily life.
Representatives from Hugs & Diapers, the Texas Diaper Bank, community volunteers and Houston-area families are expected to participate in the event.
All diapers and essential items will be distributed free of charge while supplies last.
