The Epilepsy Foundation of Texas unveiled its new Mobile Epilepsy Clinic during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday evening at the organization’s Houston office, marking a new effort to bring epilepsy education, care navigation and community resources directly to individuals and families facing barriers to traditional healthcare settings.

EFTX leadership, board members and community partners gathered at the organization’s office at 2401 Fountain View Drive for the 5:30 p.m. ceremony celebrating the launch of the mobile unit, which will travel throughout the Houston region and beyond.

The Mobile Epilepsy Clinic is designed to meet people where they are, particularly those living in rural and underserved communities where access to specialized epilepsy care can be limited. The unit will provide on-the-spot education, referrals to medical and community resources, care navigation and a trusted connection point for individuals and families navigating an epilepsy diagnosis.

Epilepsy is among the most common neurological disorders in the United States. In Texas, nearly 300,000 adults are living with the condition, according to information provided by the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas. For many families, accessing specialized care can require traveling 50 to 100 miles for appointments, creating additional challenges involving transportation, time away from work and family responsibilities.

EFTX officials said the new mobile clinic is intended to help reduce some of those barriers by bringing information and resources closer to the communities that need them.

For individuals and families affected by epilepsy, the mobile unit will serve as more than a traveling resource center. It is designed to provide guidance and connections at a time when navigating a diagnosis and the healthcare system can feel overwhelming.

The launch represents another step in the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas’ efforts to expand support and improve access to resources for Texans living with epilepsy and their families. As the Mobile Epilepsy Clinic begins traveling across Houston and surrounding communities, EFTX hopes to create more opportunities for people to receive education, identify available services and connect with the support they need without the burden of long-distance travel.
