Nearly two decades after Tyler Perry first gathered four couples around marriage, friendship, secrets and second chances, the beloved crew is heading to Italy — older, perhaps wiser, but apparently no less complicated.
Some marriages survive for better or worse. Some friendships survive everybody knowing entirely too much about everybody else. And then there is Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? crew, returning September 9, 2026, for another round of love, laughter, uncomfortable truths and the kind of relationship drama that makes viewers yell advice at the television.
Netflix has confirmed that Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? will premiere September 9, reuniting many of the familiar faces that helped make the franchise a cultural favorite. Perry once again writes, directs, produces and stars in the film.
And this time, pack something formal. The drama has upgraded its passport.
Marcus and Angela — played by Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith — gather their longtime circle for the destination wedding of their daughter Jasmine, played by Armani Greer, to athlete Wesley, portrayed by Everett Osborne. The celebration takes the group to Italy, where gorgeous scenery apparently proves no match for old secrets, new romances and unfinished emotional business.

The returning ensemble includes Tyler Perry, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker and Sharon Leal, while Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson joins the franchise as Roselyn, Wesley’s mother and a successful businesswoman with ties to the group. Netflix also lists Da’Vinchi, Laya Deleon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith II, Derrick A. King and Sydney Winbush among the next generation entering this complicated family circle.
For longtime fans, the reunion carries some history.
The original Why Did I Get Married? arrived in 2007, following four married couples whose annual getaway becomes an emotional pressure cooker of confession, betrayal, friendship and forgiveness. Why Did I Get Married Too? followed in 2010, taking the friends to the Bahamas and turning paradise into another unforgettable examination of marriage and commitment. Now, 16 years after the second film, Perry is revisiting these characters at another stage of life.
That passage of time may be exactly what gives Why Did I Get Married Again? its greatest opportunity.
The children have grown up. The parents have accumulated history. And those seemingly “perfect” marriages look quite different when viewed through the eyes of the next generation. Netflix describes the story as forcing the adults to reflect on the examples they have set as their children begin building relationships of their own.
For Houston Style Magazine, that makes this more than nostalgia. Perry has long centered Black love, Black families, Black friendship and complicated Black adulthood without requiring his characters to be flawless before they are worthy of being seen. The arguments may get loud, the revelations may get messy and somebody may need that extra glass of wine, but underneath the comedy has always been a conversation about commitment, accountability, healing and starting again.
The film also continues Perry’s busy 2026. His comedy Joe’s College Road Trip debuted on Netflix February 13 and climbed to No. 1 on Netflix’s English-language film list after release.
Now Perry is going back to the altar — figuratively, at least.
So polish the wedding shoes, prepare the group chat and remember one thing: when this crew says “I do,” somebody eventually asks why.
Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? premieres September 9, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
