Don’t Worry Willy Weekend Brings Theatre, Family Resources and Neurodiversity Awareness to Houston

Houston families will have an opportunity to experience theatre, creativity, education and community connection during the inaugural Don’t Worry Willy Weekend on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at The Ensemble Theatre.

As The Ensemble Theatre enters its 50th Artistic Season, the theatre is partnering with the Don’t Worry Willy Foundation for the new community initiative focused on increasing understanding of neurodivergence and varied learning styles in children while helping families build stronger support systems.

Inspired by the characters in the children’s play Don’t Worry Willy, created by author, playwright and Don’t Worry Willy Foundation founder Liz Unaeze, the weekend is designed to go beyond a traditional theatrical performance. The event will bring together families, educators, community organizations and experts for a day centered on learning, creativity, advocacy and connection.

The experience will include a live performance of Don’t Worry Willy, along with sensory-friendly spaces, a family resource fair, informational panels with experts and creative activities. Families will also have opportunities to connect with community partners and learn about resources available to support children and families.

Accessibility is a central part of the event, with the organizers working to create a welcoming environment while promoting greater understanding of mental health, neurodivergence and different ways children learn and experience the world.

The initiative also highlights the role the performing arts can play beyond entertainment. Through theatre and interactive activities, Don’t Worry Willy Weekend aims to create opportunities for children and families to learn together while encouraging connection, understanding and inclusion.

For Houston families looking for an engaging and meaningful weekend activity, the event offers an opportunity to enjoy a children's theatre production while connecting with resources and organizations focused on family support and child well-being.

Don’t Worry Willy Weekend is intended to serve as the beginning of a long-term vision for an annual Houston tradition combining theatre, education, advocacy and family engagement.
