The Graceful Gowns Initiative will host its inaugural Becoming Her Empowerment Luncheon on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Ballroom at Tanglewood in Houston.

Centered on the theme “Empowering Girls to Lead, Dream and Achieve,” the luncheon will bring together women, young ladies, community leaders, corporate partners and supporters for an afternoon focused on confidence, purpose, leadership and opportunity for the next generation of young women.

Houston Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for the event, which will highlight the importance of investing in and supporting young women as they prepare for their futures.

Kafi and Zoe Slaughter will serve as Honorary Mother-Daughter Chairs, representing the role women can play in encouraging, mentoring and empowering girls and young women.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. with the Champagne Experience, an elevated pre-luncheon reception featuring networking and special guest experiences. The luncheon program will begin at 2 p.m. Guests are encouraged to dress in their finest “Sparkle & Shine” attire.

Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit The Graceful Gowns Initiative and its year-round Becoming Her programming. The programs provide young women with opportunities focused on mentorship, leadership development, financial literacy, life skills, and college and career readiness.

The Graceful Gowns Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers young women through formal wear for milestone moments as well as year-round programming designed to foster confidence, personal growth, leadership development and student success.
