Texas Epilepsy Walk Houston Returns Saturday at Houston Zoo to Raise Awareness and Support Families

The Epilepsy Foundation of Texas is inviting Houstonians to lace up their walking shoes this weekend for a cause that impacts thousands of families across the state.

The Texas Epilepsy Walk Houston will take place Saturday, April 25, at the Houston Zoo, bringing together people living with epilepsy, their families, caregivers, friends and advocates for a morning focused on awareness, support and community.

The annual event is designed to remind Texans affected by epilepsy that they are not alone. Participants will walk to help raise awareness, reduce stigma surrounding seizures and epilepsy, and support programs that provide education, medical care and connection for people across the state. The event is scheduled for Saturday at the Houston zoo.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Texas, originally organized on March 28, 1980, serves all 176 counties in Texas with offices in Houston, Dallas, Amarillo and Lubbock. Its mission is to improve the lives of people affected by epilepsy through care, education, advocacy, research and connection.

The organization offers a wide range of services, including youth camps, community health worker support, educational outreach and medical clinics in Houston, Amarillo, Beaumont, Grapevine, Lubbock, Lufkin and Fort Worth. Its vision is simple but powerful: in Texas, no one faces epilepsy alone.

According to the foundation, funds raised through the walk help support specialized clinics, summer camps, mental wellness programs and seizure first-aid education at no cost to many families. One 2026 participant fundraising page notes the organization’s goal of helping make Houston the “Safest City” in Texas by leading the state in Seizure First Aid certification while raising $120,000 for vital services.

Epilepsy affects nearly 300,000 Texans, and advocates say public understanding remains critical. Seizures can appear in many forms, from convulsions to brief staring spells or sudden confusion, making education and awareness especially important for families, schools and workplaces.

Past walks have included post-event celebrations with music, awards and family-friendly activities, turning the event into both a fundraiser and a gathering of support for those navigating life with epilepsy.

Registration for the Texas Epilepsy Walk Houston is open to the public, and individuals can sign up as solo participants or join as part of a team. Organizers encourage the community to attend, whether walking in honor of a loved one, supporting a friend or simply helping raise awareness for a condition that affects so many Texans.
