Court Ruling Returns 40 Properties in Harris County Deed Fraud Case

Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee announced that his office has obtained a final default judgment against a Houston couple accused of fabricating legal documents to claim ownership of multiple properties across the area. The decision restores 40 homes to their legal owners and represents a major advance in efforts to address real estate fraud.

The case originated from an April 2025 lawsuit, which alleged that the couple carried out an extensive scheme by filing falsified transfer paperwork. According to the suit, their actions defrauded homeowners and misled buyers, resulting in significant financial losses.

Menefee described the outcome as an important step in protecting Harris County residents, noting that homeowners should not face the threat of losing property through fraudulent filings.

In 2024, the County Attorney’s Office created Scam Free Harris County, an initiative aimed at raising awareness, providing resources, and investigating scams that target consumers. Since its launch, the program has assisted residents and led to several active fraud investigations.
