The Houston Public Library (HPL) is inviting the community to two engaging author events this fall, featuring investigative journalist Lise Olsen and borderlands reporter Sergio Chapa. The programs highlight storytelling that explores truth, justice, and culture through the eyes of two acclaimed writers.

On Thursday, October 30, at 6 p.m., the Heights Neighborhood Library will host Lise Olsen, author of The Scientist and the Serial Killer: The Search for Houston’s Lost Boys. The investigative journalist will discuss her true-crime work chronicling a forensic expert’s decades-long quest to identify the victims of Houston’s forgotten murders. Olsen’s book captures the determination, heartbreak, and hope behind the pursuit of justice for those once lost to history.

On Saturday, November 8, at 11 a.m., the Central Library will welcome Sergio Chapa, co-author of Frontera: A Journey across the US-Mexico Border, written with scholar Guadalupe Correa-Cabrera. Chapa’s talk offers an immersive look into life along the border, revealing the region’s complexity, resilience, and rich cultural fabric beyond the headlines.
Both events are free and open to the public, with registration recommended at houstonlibrary.org. Parking at the Central Library complex is free on Saturdays.
As one of the nation’s largest and most diverse library systems, the Houston Public Library continues to provide equitable access to resources, technology, and lifelong learning for more than 2.3 million residents across its 44 locations.
