Fort Bend County Libraries’ Mission Bend Branch Library is offering a four-part college-preparedness workshop series this fall called “S.T.E.P. Into College,” designed to give students and their parents free, practical guidance on college admissions, financial aid, and planning for higher education or alternative paths.
The next session in the series, “T: Tackle Financial Aid,” will be held on Saturday, October 25, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the library’s Computer Lab at 8421 Addicks Clodine Road in northeast Fort Bend County.
William Keaton, Director of College Readiness at Yes Prep Public Schools, will lead the workshop, discussing the costs of attending college and ways to make higher education more affordable. Attendees will learn about different types of financial aid, including grants, loans, and scholarships, and receive step-by-step guidance on completing the FAFSA, TASFA, and CSS Profile. Strategies for maximizing financial aid and scholarship opportunities will also be shared.
The workshops are open to college-bound students, parents, and anyone returning to college after a break. The series continues with “E: Engage After Applying” on November 15 and “P: Plan for What’s Next” on December 13.
All sessions are free and open to the public, but seating is limited, and registration is required. Participants can register online at the library’s website (www.fortbendlibraries.gov) under “Classes & Events,” select Mission Bend Branch Library, and locate the program. Registration is also available by calling the library at 832-471-5900 or visiting the Adult Reference desk in person.
The “S.T.E.P. Into College” workshops provide an opportunity for students and families to gain the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the college-admissions process confidently and make informed decisions about their educational future.
