H-E-B is continuing its long-standing mission to honor and support military Veterans by expanding its Homes Built for Heroes program to include home renovations and accessibility improvements. The initiative provides critical modifications such as wheelchair ramps, accessible bathrooms, and widened doorways, helping Veterans maintain independence and improve their quality of life.
Since its launch last year, the program has completed 10 renovation projects and expanded in 2025 to support 30 Veterans in partnership with Operation Finally Home. In 2026, H-E-B plans to further increase the number of Veterans benefiting from these renovations.
One recent project assisted U.S. Army and Air Force veteran Linda Bryant and her family, with more than 60 H-E-B Partners contributing to painting, landscaping, and other home improvements. Bryant, along with her husband who served in the Navy, also received a $500 gift card to stock their pantry.
H-E-B’s commitment to Veterans extends beyond home renovations. The retailer participates in more than 360 Veterans Day events across Texas, distributing gift bags, hosting celebrations, and supporting local VFWs and American Legion posts as part of its Operation Appreciation program. Since 2013, Operation Appreciation has provided more than $17 million in support to military-based nonprofits, including employment opportunities for service members and their spouses, mortgage-free homes for severely wounded Veterans, and funding for service dog programs through K9s For Warriors and Patriot PAWS.
Through Homes Built for Heroes, H-E-B has now gifted 53 mortgage-free, fully furnished homes to severely injured Veterans and their families, partnering with organizations such as the Gary Sinise Foundation, Homes for Our Troops, and Operation Finally Home. H-E-B has also hired more than 30,000 Veterans and military spouses since 2014, regularly ranking as a top workplace for Veterans.
Texas is home to approximately 1.7 million military Veterans, making support programs like H-E-B’s vital for the state’s Veteran community. Additional initiatives include raising more than $4.3 million for military nonprofits through store checkstand campaigns and contributions from the sale of H-E-B’s Café Ole Commemorative Collection coffee blend.
H-E-B’s dedication to military service is rooted in its history, beginning with founder Howard E. Butt Sr., who served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. Through Operation Appreciation and Homes Built for Heroes, H-E-B continues to honor Veterans’ sacrifices and provide meaningful support across Texas.
