Texas Southern University Launches Inaugural ‘Tiger Chat’ to Spotlight Student Voices and Inspire Community Engagement

Texas Southern University (TSU) proudly ushered in a new era of dialogue and leadership with the launch of its Tiger Chat: Conversations That Inspire series. Held on Tuesday, June 24, in the elegant main hall of the TSU University Museum, the event not only commemorated the first anniversary of President J.W. Crawford III’s historic appointment but also placed student leadership front and center.

The invitation-only affair brought together an intimate audience of campus and community stakeholders for a dynamic fireside conversation between President Crawford and a panel of distinguished TSU student leaders. The inaugural chat offered a powerful glimpse into the ideas, ambitions, and impact of the university’s brightest minds—and reaffirmed TSU’s enduring commitment to student-centered excellence.

“We are proud to welcome the community to this inaugural event. The Tiger Chat series starts as it should – by featuring our outstanding student leaders,” said President Crawford. “We look forward to drawing in more community members so that we can highlight and celebrate contributions and achievements and all that makes Texas Southern University the outstanding institution it is.”

Celebrating a Transformational First Year

Appointed in 2024 as TSU’s 14th president, J.W. Crawford III has already become a transformative figure in the university’s legacy. From elevating student success initiatives to advancing TSU’s role as a pillar of excellence in historically Black higher education, President Crawford has spent the past year reinforcing the university’s strategic vision through inclusive leadership, innovation, and transparency.

The Tiger Chat series is the latest initiative reflecting this vision—an ongoing platform designed to elevate diverse voices within the TSU community, spark meaningful dialogue, and build bridges between students, faculty, alumni, and the broader Houston community.

A Platform for Empowerment and Change

The evening’s panel highlighted the intellect, resilience, and passion of TSU student leaders, each of whom spoke on issues ranging from academic achievement and social justice to civic engagement and career readiness. Through personal stories and powerful insights, they personified the university’s mission of transforming lives and impacting society through education.

With future installments expected to feature trailblazing faculty, influential alumni, and Houston-area changemakers, the Tiger Chat series promises to be a cornerstone of TSU’s cultural and intellectual engagement.
