TEA Releases 2025 STAAR® End-of-Course Results: Gains in STEM, Challenges in Literacy Highlight Ongoing Academic Recovery

As the academic spotlight shines on Texas classrooms this summer, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has unveiled the Spring 2025 STAAR® End-of-Course (EOC) assessment results, offering a critical snapshot of high school student achievement across the state. These assessments—covering Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and U.S. History—serve as key indicators of whether Texas students are on track for graduation and future success in college, careers, or military service.

A Closer Look at the 2025 STAAR EOC Results

This year’s data reflects modest progress in science and math, with slight declines in literacy and social studies—highlighting both areas of growth and opportunities for strategic support.

Algebra I: 47% of students met grade level, up from 45% in 2024

Biology: 62% met grade level, a solid increase from 57% last year

English I: 51% met grade level, a drop from 54% in 2024

English II: 56% met grade level, down from 60%

U.S. History: 68% met grade level, holding steady with a minor 1-point decline

These results reflect the performance of all tested students statewide, with notable improvements among economically disadvantaged, special education, and emergent bilingual learners in Biology, indicating progress in efforts toward equity in STEM education.

Commissioner Morath: A Balanced Perspective

Texas students and educators continue to work hard to demonstrate academic excellence,” said Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath. “While we’re encouraged by gains in key areas like Algebra I and Biology, we must also address the areas where performance declined. The STAAR EOC gives us reliable insights to shape the strategies that help all students thrive academically.”

Empowering Families with Insights

As of June 10, Texas families can view their child’s individual STAAR EOC results via their school’s family portal or at TexasAssessment.gov using a unique access code provided by the school. These results help parents understand where their child excels and where additional support may be needed, promoting active family engagement in academic success.

What’s Next: STAAR Grades 3–8 Results Coming June 17

Families and educators can expect the next wave of data—STAAR results for grades 3–8—to be publicly released on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Individual student reports will be accessible using the same family portal tools, ensuring transparency and tailored educational planning.

In the meantime, statewide and local performance summaries, including breakdowns by district, region, or campus, are available via the Texas Assessment Research Portal.

At a time when education recovery remains a top priority across the nation, Houston Style Magazine encourages families, educators, and policymakers to use this data not just as a measure of academic progress, but as a call to action. Our students' futures depend on informed support, culturally competent teaching, and continuous innovation in classrooms across Texas.
