Menefee, Edwards Post Strong Fundraising Starts in TX-18 Congressional Race

The race for Texas’ 18th Congressional District is heating up as early campaign finance reports reveal strong fundraising performances from two prominent Democratic contenders, Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee and former Houston City Council Member Amanda Edwards.

Menefee led the field in first-quarter fundraising, bringing in $391,603.07 from 7,988 grassroots donors in just 15 days. With an average donation of $49.02, his campaign demonstrated wide-reaching support and early momentum. Menefee has built his platform on progressive priorities, pledging to fight for federal resources to address flooding, food deserts, and crumbling infrastructure, while defending public programs like Medicare, Social Security, and public education.

Known for taking on powerful interests—including Governor Greg Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and corporate polluters—Menefee has positioned himself as a fighter for working families. His campaign emphasizes bold leadership and a record of results that resonate with communities across the district.

Close behind, Amanda Edwards reported raising $375,024 in the first quarter, despite entering the race only 13 days before the filing deadline. She reported $350,900 in cash on hand, signaling a rapid and efficient start to her campaign. Edwards, who previously served as an At-Large Houston City Council Member, has built a base of support rooted in years of public service, legal experience, and civic engagement.

Her campaign pointed to the fundraising numbers as evidence of her growing momentum and the trust she has earned throughout the district. With a platform focused on pragmatic leadership and community-driven solutions, Edwards is positioning herself as a steady, experienced voice ready to represent TX-18 in Washington.

The early fundraising success of both candidates sets the stage for a competitive Democratic primary in a district long seen as a stronghold of political and civic influence.
