Lone Star Flight Museum Hosts 2024 Girls in Aviation Day to Inspire Future Female Aviators

The Lone Star Flight Museum will welcome over 300 aspiring aviators to its Girls in Aviation Day, presented by ExxonMobil, on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Aimed at inspiring girls ages 8 to 17 to explore careers in STEM and aviation, the event showcases opportunities in fields such as piloting, mechanics, engineering, and air traffic control.

Highlights of the day include nearly a dozen aircraft on display, flight simulators, hands-on mechanic experiences, drone demonstrations, and a career fair featuring aviation professionals. The event will conclude with a panel discussion sponsored by H-E-B, featuring industry leaders like Captain Teresa Ferry of the Navy Reserve, Nia Gilliam, United Airlines Captain and founder of Sisters of the Skies, and Marcela White, owner of Tavaero Jet Charter. Dr. Shelly Lesikar DeZevallos, president of West Houston Airport, will moderate.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Girls in Aviation Day, launched by Women in Aviation International. Anna Hawley, President & CEO of the Lone Star Flight Museum, noted that the event has doubled in size from last year, with strong support from sponsors like ExxonMobil. "We believe aviation inspires achievement and endless possibilities," she said. ExxonMobil’s Alvin Abraham added, "We are proud to support this initiative and empower the next generation of women in STEM."

The event is also supported by H-E-B, Tavaero Jet Charters, Universal Technical Institute, Southwest Airlines, and others.
