As the November 5th General and Special Elections approach, the Harris County Clerk's Office (HCCO) is ramping up its efforts to ensure secure, transparent, and accurate voting. In line with its commitment to maintaining electoral integrity, HCCO has initiated its crucial Logic and Accuracy (L&A) testing at the county's new election headquarters near George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Building Trust Through Transparency
Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth emphasized the significance of transparency in safeguarding the integrity of elections. “The integrity of our elections begins with transparency, and Logic and Accuracy testing is a fundamental part of that effort,” said Hudspeth. This rigorous testing process ensures that every voting machine is properly calibrated to accurately record and count every ballot.
The public can be confident that their vote will be correctly tabulated as the L&A testing process is an essential legal requirement, mandated by state law. In a display of bipartisan cooperation, representatives from both the Democratic and Republican parties are present during the entire testing process.
Ensuring Accuracy and Compliance
L&A testing is not just about regulatory compliance but also about instilling trust in the voters. "Our goal is to foster trust and help voters understand how we protect their ballots," Hudspeth explained. HCCO ensures the voting equipment adheres to all Texas Election Code standards as well as federal election regulations.
Additionally, the Clerk's Office recently completed a thorough review of the ballots, ensuring everything from candidate names to propositions is accurate. In this election cycle, more than 90 federal, state, and local entities have placed items on the ballot, ranging from legislative positions to local measures.
Commitment to Security and Accuracy
"Security, transparency, and accuracy are the cornerstones of our approach to elections," Hudspeth added. With meticulous attention to detail, the HCCO team works diligently to ensure every piece of equipment passes the L&A test. Only once 100% accuracy is confirmed does the office proceed with election preparations.
