In a somber conclusion to a heart-wrenching case, Houston resident Larry Britton has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the 2021 double murder of his girlfriend and father. The sentencing, announced by Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, brings to light the devastating consequences of Britton’s actions.

“This was not an accident or mistake, but a deliberate double murder,” Ogg stated. “The choices made by this defendant have irreparably harmed two families, and he will now face the likelihood of spending the rest of his life behind bars.”

Larry Britton, 41, faced charges for the tragic deaths of Joanne Rosas, 40, and Larry Britton Sr., 69. The horrific events unfolded on August 7, 2021, when Britton, who was under the influence of PCP, fatally shot Rosas in their northwest Houston home. In a shocking turn, he then pursued his father outside, where the murder was captured on surveillance video.

Upon arriving at the scene, Houston Police Officers found Larry Britton Sr. deceased outside. Inside the home, they discovered Rosas, who, despite her critical condition, was able to provide details of the night’s events. Rosas was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries three weeks later. Her death led to an upgrade in charges against Britton to capital murder.

Britton chose to plead guilty to murder on Thursday, a decision that spared him the possibility of a life sentence without parole had he been convicted of capital murder. Assistant District Attorney Phillip White, a chief in the Homicide Division, emphasized the lasting impact of Britton’s actions.

“These two people are gone forever because of the defendant’s actions,” White remarked. “Two families are enduring ongoing suffering due to his deeds. It is significant that justice has been served for both families.”
