Los Defensores Presents $40,000 Check for Community Initiatives in Houston

Los Defensores, a nationwide brand focused on supporting the Hispanic community by connecting individuals with experienced attorneys, recently held a check presentation ceremony at Xochi Restaurant in Downtown Houston. The event marked the launch of their “Siempre Contigo” (Always With You) initiative, donating $40,000 to the Houston Food Bank and BakerRipley to address critical issues such as food insecurity and economic opportunity for underserved populations.

Notable attendees included Houston Council Member Joaquin Martinez, Mexico Consulate Deputy Consul Edgardo Briones Velásquez, and representatives from the beneficiary organizations. Nicole Cordero, Vice President of Community Relations and Marketing at Los Defensores, hosted the gathering, emphasizing the collective impact of these organizations.

Council Member Martinez presented a Certificate of Recognition to Los Defensores, commending their efforts and those of the Houston Food Bank and BakerRipley. “We need organizations like yours to help families work, live, and thrive in our communities,” he said, representing the support of the City of Houston and Mayor John Whitmire.

The “Siempre Contigo” initiative reflects Los Defensores’ commitment to uplifting the community. “When we say, 'we are always with you,' it’s a promise we’ve upheld for 40 years,” Cordero stated, highlighting their dedication to addressing the challenges faced by the community.

The $20,000 grant to the Houston Food Bank will provide 60,000 meals to food-insecure families across 18 counties in Southeast Texas, benefiting 800,000 individuals. Additionally, with over 60,000 Hispanic-owned businesses in Houston, initiatives like “Siempre Contigo” are vital for supporting entrepreneurial growth and community empowerment.
