As Houston prepares to celebrate the Re-Grand Opening of This Little Cake of Mine (TLCM) on October 20, 2024, owners Erica and Desion Hubbard are excited to share the story of their bakery’s growth, their deep ties to the community, and their commitment to providing a place where both delicious desserts and meaningful connections are made.

TLCM’s Re-Grand Opening Celebration is set to be a vibrant community event. The day will begin with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, featuring elected officials and special guests, marking the official relaunch of the bakery and cafe. Once the doors open, attendees can immerse themselves in the festivities with lively sounds of a live band playing from 2 to 4 PM.

Attendees will have plenty of opportunities to win exciting door prizes, including a chance to win Free Cupcakes for a Year! For those feeling creative, a cupcake decorating station will be available, providing a fun activity for children and adults alike. Families can enjoy various children’s activities and capture memories at the photo booth, while indulging in a wide array of dessert options, including TLCM’s famous cupcakes, refreshing smoothies, and indulgent ice cream milkshakes. From espresso-based drinks to handcrafted desserts, TLCM ensures that every taste bud will be satisfied, indeed!

The Hubbards shared a token of appreciation for Houston Equity Fund, which was founded under the leadership of May Sylvester Turner. The grant helped spew a renewed energy into TLCM. Erica (wife and mother) stated, “It’s more than just financial support—it’s a catalyst for us to continue growing and reaching our full potential. This funding allowed us to purchase tangible, necessary items that will help our business thrive and keep us at the heart of the community we serve.” TLCM takes pride in recognizing and giving credit to the Houston Equity Fund for its commitment to empowering local businesses, particularly minority-owned ventures that have the potential to inspire and uplift others.

Be sure to mark your calendars for this coming Sunday, October 20, 2024, and join This Little Cake of Mine for their Re-Grand Opening celebration, where community, creativity, and delicious treats all come together in one special place.

The Journey Behind This Little Cake of Mine:

This Little Cake of Mine was birthed from a newly married couple, who happened to also be college students and new parents. This Little Cake of Mine was founded to create a steady income source while doing something that brought joy, not just to the owners as entrepreneurs, but also to the people they serve. After considering their passion for baking and artistry, as well as the demand for celebratory desserts, they decided that they could fill a void in the cake industry by providing cakes and treats that not only looked luxurious but tasted even better than they looked.

Between college classes, work and taking care of their two children at the time, Desion (husband and father) decided it would be a great idea to begin playing around with recipes and teach themselves to master the art of making birthday cakes. With that said, This Little Cake of Mine was birthed shortly after! They began creating practice cakes and also asking family and friends to allow them to provide cakes for their celebratory occasions at no cost, so that they could practice their new skill and gain feedback to perfect their product. It didn't take long to create a buzz and grow their clientele base, as they began to post their creations on social media. The response was overwhelmingly positive as they soon learned that they were well on our way to creating a unique and necessary product that would soon become a staple in the Houston community.
As in business and commerce, one may find interactions can sometimes be dry or mundane. TLCM saw a need for business that not only focuses on a quality product but prioritizes nurturing relationships with the clients they serve. TLCM believes their work is not just about creating tasty treats, but also about bringing people together to celebrating life's special moments.
