YMCA of Greater Houston Expands Summer Camp Access with Support from Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones

The YMCA of Greater Houston, in a collaborative effort with Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones, is excited to announce expanded access to their popular YMCA Discovery Summer Day Camps. From June 3 to July 26, qualifying families can receive free childcare at the Weekley Community Center in Cypress, thanks to generous scholarships funded by Commissioner Briones. Valued at $200 per week, these scholarships offer children a safe, enriching, and fun-filled summer camp experience surrounded by positive role models.

Empowering Youth Through Enriching Summer Camps

“Our summer day camps provide an environment where children can cultivate a sense of belonging and achievement while forming meaningful social connections,” said Stephen Ives, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Houston. “We are grateful for Commissioner Lesley Briones’s invaluable support of an enriching program that empowers youth to thrive. Her support enables us to build stronger communities and offer essential resources to families who do not have access to summer activity options.”

Camp Details and Activities

YMCA summer camps are designed for children ages 5 to 12, offering a diverse range of activities to spark curiosity and discover new passions. Campers can look forward to:

- STEM projects

- Sports and outdoor games

- Nature exploration

- Water safety training

- Field trips

- Service learning

- Math games

Camp Information

Ages: 5-12

Dates: Weekly sessions, Monday – Friday, June 3 – July 26, from 8 a.m. – 6:80 p.m.

Locations:

 Weekley Community Center, 8440 Greenhouse Rd., Cypress, TX 77433

Fees: Free (a $200 weekly value covered by Harris County Precinct 4, Commissioner Lesley Briones)

Qualifications: Youth qualify for free or reduced lunch and must be referred by their elementary school administration. Contact Adriane Jones at Adriane.Jones@ymcahouston.org to determine qualification.
