The Atlanta Music Project (AMP) Senior Youth Choir has achieved exceptional acclaim at the 2024 World Choir Games in Auckland, New Zealand, securing the coveted title of "Category Winner" in The Open Competition. This prestigious recognition was announced on July 13, 2024, marking a historic moment for the choir and the Atlanta music community.
Led by renowned Atlanta-based composer and conductor B.E. Boykin, the AMP Senior Youth Choir delivered a stellar performance that earned them a "Golden Diploma Level VI" with an impressive score of 26.39 out of 30, the highest in their competition category. This score also ranked as the second highest across all choirs participating in The Open Competition that evening.
Competing in the O4 Youth Choirs category, open to mixed and equal voices choirs aged between 12 and 25, the AMP Senior Youth Choir comprised 38 talented singers, ranging from 14 to 20 years old. They outshone competitors from around the globe, including choirs from the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, impressing a panel of esteemed jurors from Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, and Italy.
Aisha Moody, Co-Founder & CEO of AMP, expressed her jubilation, stating, "This international recognition is a watershed moment for the Atlanta Music Project. It underscores our commitment to nurturing musical excellence and providing transformative opportunities for our students." She credited AMP's dedicated choral faculty and supporters for their role in nurturing these young musicians.
Dantes Rameau, Co-Founder & CEO of AMP, echoed these sentiments, praising the choir's dedication and the support from donors and partners that enabled their participation in such a prestigious global event. "This achievement," he emphasized, "marks a milestone in our mission to empower Atlanta's youth through music."
The AMP Senior Youth Choir's repertoire included masterpieces like "Dies Irae" from Michael John Trotta's "Requiem," "Mata del Anima Sola" by Antonio Estévez, Ralph Carmichael's "Quiet Place" arranged by Jerry Rubino, and the traditional spiritual "Elijah Rock" arranged by Moses Hogan.
AMP's participation in the World Choir Games was made possible through the AMP Travel & Tour Endowment, established in 2023 with generous contributions from an anonymous donor and the Chestnut Family Foundation.
