The Houston Community College (HCC) Board of Trustees, in a significant session held on January 24, has unveiled its leadership lineup for 2024, subsequent to the HCC Trustee Elections. This assembly marked the commitment to educational leadership and community service by the board members, indicative of their continuous dedication to fostering an environment of academic excellence.
Dr. Cynthia Lenton-Gary, an advocate for educational innovation, has been re-elected for a notable third term as Board Chair, illustrating the trust placed in her leadership for HCC District VII. Laolu Davies-Yemitan emerges as a new force for change, appointed as Board Vice Chair for District IV. Trustee Dave Wilson will bring his expertise to the role of secretary for District VI.
In a unifying decision, the trustees have conferred the role of HCC’s ninth chancellor upon Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D., who has demonstrated steadfast leadership as Interim Chancellor since September 1, 2023. This choice reflects a strategic vision for HCC's future.
The election process, initiated on November 7, 2023, with the filing of an Application for a Place on the Ballot, culminates in a board with nine members, each representing a single-member district. The trustees, who volunteer their service without remuneration, are vested with the ultimate responsibility to shape and interpret the policies of HCC.
