Thursday on "The Talk" Taraji P. Henson gets a big surprise meeting artist C5 who recently posted a viral video of him rapping about the Award-winning actress. Moved to tears, she reacts, "I just want to thank you. It's such a pleasure to meet you. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Because, you know, sometimes it's the fans that gets me through. I could be going through a dark moment. They pray for me ya'll, they make songs for me, for somebody to sit down and right some versus and some bars, that's real love. And then, you had your baby with you. And that imagery, young man, is very, very powerful. And I said in my post to you, that you are a great representation of what humanity looks like. And the fact that you did that video holding your son means you are passing that down to your child. I ask that God protect you and your family, always, because you are special." She goes on to joke, "If I was Cookie Lyon baby, you'd be signed!" C5 reacts, "Man, Taraji...thank you for everything you do. I just want to let you know we stand behind you. Keep inspiring and keep talking that talk because we hear you and we're listening and it's going in our spirits."
Taraji P. Henson Gets Emotional Over Standing Ovation; Thanks Oprah For Being 'seen' and 'heard'
Taraji P. Henson gets emotional entering "The Talk" set to a standing ovation by the audience. "Look I'm receiving it," responds. "I wasn't expecting that." Sheryl Underwood adds, "That's because you are incredible in this ["The Color Purple"] movie." Henson opens up about going back to singing after studying it in school, the films' recent award nominations and representation in Hollywood. Underwood says, "We've both talked about pay disparity...I appreciate you and I thank you for using your platform. So, I just want to give you your flowers right now." Henson reacts, "I don't speak just for black women; I speak for women of color...that's why it's important to have women of color, and diversity in companies. Because if it were not for Oprah Winfrey producing this film, I don't know if I would have been seen or heard. That's what producers do, she actually called me and was like, 'If there's anything I can do, you just let me know'...I was nervous, because it is Oprah, and...I told her, she fixed it, everything the next day."
