Commissioner Ellis to Celebrate All-Stars Turner and Baker at TLIP Grand Slam Evening Fundraiser

Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis is set to host a glamorous Texas Legislative Internship Program (TLIP) Grand Slam Evening on Monday, Feb. 5, at 7:15 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston. The star-studded event will honor the achievements of two outstanding individuals – former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and ex-Houston Astros Manager Dusty Baker. Beyond being a prestigious recognition, the evening will also serve as a fundraiser for TLIP, a program that has provided over 700 students with invaluable experiences in the Texas Legislature and various other offices.

The TLIP, initiated by Commissioner Ellis three decades ago, stands as one of the nation's most successful internship programs, boasting an impressive track record of fostering talent and nurturing future leaders. Throughout the years, TLIP has thrived thanks to enduring partnerships and generous support from key entities such as the Mickey Leland Center at Texas Southern University, the Texas Legislature, Harris County, the Beaumont Foundation, and dedicated donors.

This elegant affair will not only celebrate the contributions of Turner and Baker but also emphasize the importance of investing in the future of public service. Former TLIP interns continue to make significant strides in their careers, with three currently serving in the Texas House of Representatives and three presiding as Harris County Court-at-Law judges.

The event's emcee, Channel 2’s Meteorologist Khambrell Marshall, will guide attendees through an evening filled with appreciation for the honorees and a shared commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders.

For those passionate about supporting a program that has become a cornerstone in shaping the careers of aspiring public servants, this TLIP Grand Slam Evening is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution. As the event unfolds at the Four Seasons Hotel, the ambiance will be charged with the spirit of philanthropy and the celebration of a program that has left an indelible mark on Texas politics.

Join Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Sylvester Turner, Dusty Baker, and other distinguished guests for a night of glamour, purpose, and a shared vision for the continued success of TLIP.
