From Dishwasher to Nationally Acclaimed Chef Educator: Katrina Warner’s Inspiring Journey

Katrina Warner’s culinary journey is nothing short of remarkable. Once a teen dishwasher, Warner has risen through the ranks to become one of the nation’s most celebrated chef educators. Following in her brother’s footsteps, she took a leap into culinary school after high school, igniting a passion that would lead her to a distinguished career in the kitchen.

Warner joined Tarrant County College (TCC) in 2002 as an instructor and coordinator for the Culinary Arts Program. Her dedication and skill recently earned her the prestigious title of *Chef Educator of the Year* from the American Culinary Federation (ACF), North America’s largest professional chefs’ organization. This accolade places Warner among the elite in culinary education, a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence.

TCC Southeast President Andy Bowne proudly acknowledges Warner's accomplishments, stating, “To be selected by the ACF is a tremendous honor, considering the caliber of the other finalists. She is committed to helping our students gain the knowledge, skills, and credentials to excel as professionals.”

Competing against five top chef educators from across the country, Warner delivered a masterful 50-minute cooking lesson, presenting two impeccably prepared plates to the judges. Her performance was followed by a 10-minute Q&A session, where she impressed both the judges and the audience with her expertise.

Warner’s journey to this national recognition has been marked by several significant achievements. In 2023, she earned her ACF Executive Chef certification, a prerequisite for the competition. Her accolades also include being named Educator of the Year by the Texas Chefs Association’s Dallas chapter in 2019 and 2022.

TCC’s Culinary Arts Program, where Warner shares her expertise, is certified by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC) and holds an exemplary rating, reflecting its adherence to high standards and outstanding program management.

For Warner, the honor of being named *Chef Educator of the Year* is deeply personal. She credits her success to the mentors, instructors, and classmates who guided her along the way. “It is vital for food service professionals to train and share all their knowledge and wisdom with the next generation of employees coming into the workforce,” she emphasizes.

Her students, like Ade Tokunbo, are quick to praise her impact. Tokunbo describes Warner as an exceptional instructor who has imparted invaluable culinary knowledge. Warner’s response is humbly appreciative: “I always strive to do my best in the classroom. My goal is that the students understand the material, feel confident in the kitchen, and are successful in their careers after they graduate.”
